Seemingly random slowdown of Dynare on Windows

Some Windows users have reported a significant slowdown of Dynare preprocessing on Windows since the end of February 2024. The delay appears seemingly at random, with some runs taking forever and other happening as fast as expected.

The culprit seems to be a recent update of the Windows Defender. The problem manifests in significant CPU and memory usage of the “Antimalware Service Executable” shown in the Windows Task Manager.

A solution is adding an exception to the Windows Defender for the Dynare folder:

In windows press Start > Windows Security > Virus & threat protection > Manage settings under Virus & threat protection > Add remove exclusions > Add an exclusion > Folder > "C:\dynare"

Some Dynare users on Windows have noticed a sudden slowdown during preprocessing since late February 2024. This is likely due to a recent Windows Defender update causing high CPU/memory usage from the “Antimalware Service Executable.” To fix this, add an exception in Windows Defender for the Dynare folder. This tells Defender not to scan Dynare files, helping speed things up.
